Mahkwa Lodge Staff Voluntarily Feed 300 Homeless People in Winnipeg

The staff of Mahkwa Lodge, Lac Seul First Nation, were very excited to meet Althea Guiboche, of Winnipeg, AKA “The Bannock Lady” while on a weekend trip to celebrate the-end-of -the-season for Mahkwa Lodge, a grueling seasonal job for most of them, but also a very rewarding job in customer service. By way of the “Moccasin Telegraph”, Maeegan Linklater of Winnipeg told Chris Southwind, Sr. one of the managers at Mahkwa Lodge about Althea. In August, Chris and Althea agreed to join forces to make a hot meal possible for three hundred homeless in Winnipeg.

National Chief Perry Bellegarde was re-elected during the AFN Special Chiefs Assembly held July 24-26 in Vancouver.

Train derailed south of Moosonee

The Polar Bear Express, carrying 73 passengers has derailed just south of Moosonee on May 30.

Minor injuries have been reported.

Ontario Northland spokesperson Rebecca McGlynn said the train was carrying 73 passengers and seven crew members when it left the tracks about 37 kilometres south of Moosonee on its way back to Cochrane around 5:45 p.m.

Northland is currently investigating the cause of the derailment and the damage done to the train and tracks.

His 8 song CD will be available on June 1, 2018, and will be released during his CD Launch Party in Sudbury at the Caruso Club on the same date.

“I am so pumped,” says Matt James, “this has been my dream all my life, to have a CD collection of my original songs, and to share my passion for music with the world.”

Matt James grew up in northern Ontario, in a small community called Mattagami, 45 minutes outside of Timmins Ontario.

FN leaders call on Lakehead University to rescind Law Dean's appointment

Leaders of Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) and Kitchenumaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) are calling on Lakehead University to rescind the appointment of provincial Justice George Patrick Smith, who sentenced First Nations leaders to prison for protecting their lands, as interim dean of the university’s embattled law school.
