Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler, on behalf of the Executive Council, applauds the signing of a Treaty Table Memorandum of Understanding between the Mushkegowuk Council and the Government of Ontario at Queen’s Park this morning.
“On behalf of Nishnawbe Aski Nation I am pleased to congratulate Grand Chief Jonathon Solomon and the Mushkegowuk Council for this milestone agreement that will help their First Nations engage with the Government of Ontario through their Treaty relationship. This process was initiated by the late Grand Chief Dr. Stan Louttit and is a tribute to his legacy of leadership. We are encouraged that the government has agreed to work with the Mushkegowuk Council in areas of economic development and sustainability including governance, consultation and resource benefit sharing. We are confident that this Treaty-based relationship will help advance the interests of the Mushkegowuk Cree communities and pave the way for a new relationship between Government of Ontario all NAN Tribal Councils and First Nations.”
The Mushkegowuk Council is one of NAN’s seven Tribal Councils and represents seven Cree communities in northeastern Ontario: Attawapiskat First Nation, Chapleau Cree First Nation, Fort Albany First Nation, Kashechewan First Nation, Missanabie Cree First Nation, Moose Cree First Nation, and Taykwa Tagamou Nation (New Post).
