15-year-old found dead in Sioux Lookout

The body of the young girl found deceased on Sept. 17 in Sioux Lookout has been identified as 15-year-old Regina Kakekaspan of Sioux Lookout.
The girl’s body was found behind a church on First Avenue North.
The Sioux Lookout O.P.P. have called in the North West Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit to help with the case. A post mortem exam is taking place in Kenora on Sept. 18.

Truth and Reconcilliation Hearings in Fort Albany

Justice Murray Sinclair, chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC), will conduct a two-day hearing in Fort Albany, Ontarioon Monday, January 28 and Tuesday, January 29.
The hearing will provide an opportunity for those affected by theIndianResidentialSchoolsystem and its legacy to share their experiences with Justice Sinclair, community members and anyone else who would like to learn about and bear witness to the schools’ legacy.

Two men charged in KI break ins

(BIG TROUT POLICE, ON.) Big Trout Lake Police and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two males after a break and enter occurred in Big Trout Lake.
On June 14, 2013 the complainant reported that items were noted missing from the residence. Police entered into an investigation and subsequently two males were arrested and charged.
Archie MCKAY (35 years) has been charged with Break and Enter and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code. Jeremy ALBANY (25 years) has been charged with Break and Enter contrary to the Criminal Code.
