North Spirit Lake is exploring the possibility of developing a hydroelectric generating station nears its community.
The station would allow the community to modernize operations and reduce costs.
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation has provided $100,000 for this project under its Northern Energy Program, which helps northern organizations pursue clean alternatives and reduce demand on non-renewable energy sources.
The funds will help the community assess the viability of the project through a study. The study will determine site conditions, water level variations, plant-capacity and energy production as well as assess costs and ecological benefits.
