Ontario Provincial Police and the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) are looking into the death of a three-year-old child from Constance Lake First Nation.
The Hearst OPP detachment was contacted on Saturday September 30 to assist NAPS and paramedics with a girl in medical distress in the community near Highway 11.
OPP say the child was transported to hospital where she was pronounced dead. The investigation is being conducted under the authority of the Coroner's Act. A post-mortem was scheduled to take place on Monday, October 2.
It is the second tragedy involving a child in the community in less than a month.
On September 10, OPP were called to Constance Lake to assist NAPS with a four-year-old girl in medical distress. She was also transported to hospital where she was pronounced dead. A post-mortem failed to determine the cause of death, and OPP said further medical testing would be required before the investigation could be concluded.
