Radio-a-thon raises funds for Seven Youth Media, Mikinakoos

Two agencies raised $20,000 in pledges during the Juvenescence radio-a-thon Jan. 14-17 on Wawatay Radio.
Mikinakoos, the short term assessment and treatment unit run by Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) and SEVEN Youth Media Network run by Wawatay Native Communications Society will share the funds raised during the three-day show.
“Unfortunately, the funding SEVEN received to support all the good work it does is going to expire and support from the community is needed to ensure it continues running,” said Joyce Hunter, director of SEVEN Youth Media Network.
SLFNHA and Wawatay joined forces for the radio-a-thon which featured discussions about issues and events affecting youth socially, guests in studio, live entertainment and creative additions including articles from SEVEN being read over the air.
Organizers are reminding people who made pledges to honour them by contacting their band office or SLFNHA.
