Band head count funding unfair, forcing students to use loans

Dear Editor:
I am writing this letter to find something out.
What I would like to know is, why do reservation bands get thousands of dollars for their band members even the ones who live off reserve?
We, the ones who live off reserve, ask for monies and support from our bands and we receive none.
They always say they have no money yet the government gives the bands thousands and thousands of dollars for our head count; our so called band number.
Why do they get all this money and can’t help us? We are then forced to go to OSAP and go into debt (for post-secondary schooling).
This is one of the reasons we here in Kapuskasing are leaving our parent band Moose Factory First Nation to start our own, but they won’t let us because they will lose all the resources here in the Kapuskasing area.
Talk about greed and no respect for First Nations people living off reserve; the ones the band is supposed to be helping.
