Wabasse reelected in Webequie

Cornelius Wabasse received 58 per cent of the votes in being reelected chief of Webequie First Nation.
The election was held Jan. 28. Wabasse will serve a term of two years.
Former chief Scott Jacob received 26 per cent of the votes while Elsie MacDonald, 11 per cent, and Fred Jacob, four percent, also ran for chief.
Sixty-nine per cent of the 498 eligible voters cast their ballots, according to electoral officer Levi Sofea.
The nomination meeting for councillors was held Jan. 31 and the election will be held Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
