A pair of government dignitaries visited Eabametoong Nov. 4 alongside Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Stan Beardy.
Ruth Ann Onley, wife of Ontario Lieut.-Gov. David Onley, and Sharon Johnston, wife of Governor General David Johnston, spent several hours talking to chief and council and meeting youth and Elders from the community.
The women were also taken on a tour of the community – which remains under a state of emergency – and shown homes which were fire bombed and damaged by arson.
For complete coverage of the visit and an update on the state of emergency, please see the Nov. 11 edition of Wawatay News.
