Constance Lake and mining exploration company Zenyatta have been given more time to discuss drilling issues in the communities traditional territory.
Zenyatta made the announcement May 12.
Constance Lake filed a court motion looking to stop Zenyatta from doing exploratory drilling in an area near Hearst. The community claims the area is in a “crucial part” of its traditional territory known as the Heartland.
During an April 29 hearing, a judge ordered that both sides, as well as the Ontario government, attempt to resolve the issue outside the courts. They were given until May 11. However, Zenyatta said the case was moved to May 20 to allow more time for discussion.
Zenyatta, a Thunder Bay junior exploration company, announced Feb. 28 it was starting an exploratory drill program northwest of Hearst.
Constance Lake has since said the company did not properly inform the community before entering its traditional territory. However, in an April 29 press release Zenyatta said it “had been engaged in consultative discussions and dialogue” with the community for about a year.
