Attawapiskat sends Aboriginal Affairs management action plan

Attawapiskat First Nation has sent a formal plan and budget to the Thunder Bay Aboriginal Affairs office Dec. 7.
This management action plan will address the immediate needs of community members living in tent frames and make-to-do shelters. The community is also calling for Minister John Duncan to abort the decision to place the community under third party management.
From an Attawapiskat press release the management action plan is said to include:
Completed inspections by Mushkegouwuk Technical Services on housing inspections for houses to be renovated and inspections on the Healing Lodge for temporary shelter and inspections on 50 temporary trailer units that are housing 90 people.
Budgets and materials already ordered for the renovation of vacant houses.
Budget for the acquisition of 22 mobile homes.
A logistics plan for the transportation of mobile homes to Attawapiskat by winter road.
Budget for start-up supplies and operating budget for the use of the community’s Healing Lodge as a shelter.
Budget for the fire and safety upgrade and materials needed for the 50 unit mobile trailers.
