Beginning on October 17, 2017 Wawatay Radio Network along with Wawatay News and Wawatay News Online will be launching a word of the week essay writing and artwork contest.
Wawatay is encouraging students to write a one-page essay on the word each week OR paint/draw a picture depicting the word.
Each week the best artwork and essays will be selected and entered into a draw, where 4 youths will win a trip to Toronto to see the Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers play from a deluxe luxury suite! The youth will be chaperoned by Wawatay staff.
There will be seven weeks and seven words, and therefore seven chances to be entered into the draw because students can submit each week.
The contest closes on December 1, 2017.
Each student must like Wawatay’s Facebook page, download the entry affidavit for one entry of either the essay or painting/drawing per week per student.
Students can submit only one entry per week for each word.
How entries will be judged: essays will have proper punctuation, grammar and spelling. The teacher will sign an affidavit and submit with the essays or drawing/painting stating that the student is the sole artist.
Any plagiarism will result in an automatic disqualification from the entire contest.
The winners along with chaperones will fly to Toronto on December 10, stay overnight and fly home on December 11.
