Aroland First Nation is seeking a Finance Director to provide strong financial leadership, oversee the Nation’s financial operations, and support responsible, transparent decision-making.
Reporting to the Band Manager, the Finance Director provides leadership in financial planning, budgeting, reporting, funding agreement management, internal controls, audits, and organizational financial sustainability.
The successful candidate will work with Chief and Council, the Band Manager, Program Managers and Directors, and employees to provide sound financial advice, promote accountability and transparency, and support informed decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Provide financial advice and recommendations to the Band Manager, Chief and Council.
Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
Oversee funding agreements, contribution agreements, and compliance requirements.
Coordinate annual audits and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
Support program managers with budgeting, proposals, financial reporting, and project planning.
Monitor capital, infrastructure, and economic development projects.
Supervise and mentor finance staff while promoting accountability and professional growth.
Contribute as a member of the senior management team to organizational planning and decision-making.
Qualifications
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
CPA designation is preferred; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Minimum 4–5 years of progressive financial management experience, including supervisory experience.
Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, audits, internal controls, and funding agreements.
Experience working with First Nations, Indigenous organizations, public sector, or non-profit organizations is considered an asset.
Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
