Executive Director
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will be a Survivor or Intergenerational Survivor of the Mohawk Institute and/or a member of Six Nations of the Grand River, or a member of one of the First Nations that had their children taken to the Mohawk Institute. They will have leadership/executive experience from working in an Indigenous organization and a deep understanding of the legacy of the Mohawk Institute and Indian Residential Schools. The Executive Director will provide leadership in delivering the mandate of the Secretariat as set out by Survivors.

Key Responsibilities
Board Support and development
Financial Management
Human Resources, including the recruitment and retention of Staff, and creating an organizational culture where everyone feels safe, valued, included, and heard
Survivor and Community Relations and Communications
Sustainability and Development of Programs and Resources
Technology and Operations, including the creation of a Data Strategy
Foster relationships with Indigenous leadership, and all levels of government

Education And Experience
Post-Secondary Degree in Humanities, Public Administration, or another relevant field with several years of senior level management in the non-profit community & human services sector
Organizational design and leadership skills with an ability to identify and develop talent through effective coaching, mentoring, and succession planning
High level of business and financial acumen
High-level strategic thinking and planning skills in designing and developing programs and major projects
Strong political acuity
Demonstrated public speaking skills, including experience with news media
Excellent time management skills, including a proven ability to prioritize workflow amid interruptions, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous protocols
Demonstrated success in managing government and foundation relations, and fundraising
Proven experience in providing support to a Board of Directors
Knowledge of the Indian Residential School System, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action and the history of the Mohawk Institute

Location and Compensation
The Successful Candidate will be required to work mostly from the Survivors’ Secretariat office located at Six Nations of the Grand River, with some flexibility for remote work
Given that the Candidate will be working with older Survivors, proof of COVID vaccination will be requested

Location of Position
The Survivors’ Secretariat is in the process of creating a welcoming office space at Six Nations of the Grand River. The Executive Director will be required to work from the new office location at Six Nations of the Grand River, with some flexibility for remote work.
