The Matawa communities want to work with Platinex Inc. to explore the possibility of mining development in their traditional lands.

Platinex stakes new lands

Claims adjacent to Webequie, Marten Falls, Eabametoong, Neskantaga, Gull Bay Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Stan Beardy condemned the province for issuing 72,000 acres of new mining claims to Platinex Inc.

School to be cleaned

A diesel fuel spill in a crawl space under John C. Yesno Education Centre in Eabametoong has temporarily closed the school while the community scrambles to clean the mess.

12 new constables

Eabametoong home gutted by fire

An Eabametoong First Nation home was destroyed by fire Nov. 5.The home�s interior, which was shared by six people, was gutted. Nishnawbe Aski Police reported no injuries connected to the afternoon blaze.The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is scheduled to attend the First Nation to determine the cause of the fire.NAPS is continuing to investigate the fire. �JT
