If so, consider this unique opportunity with the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation to negotiate land and land-related claims with Indigenous communities, ministry partners and the federal government.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• act as the negotiator on contentious and highly sensitive land claim negotiations
• provide advanced negotiations and project management support to highly complex land claim negotiations
• provide leadership, advice and guidance to negotiating team members
• coordinate the development of negotiation policies, strategies and proposals
• work with ministry partners to implement public and stakeholder engagement, consultation and communications initiatives

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirement:
• You are willing and able to travel extensively to areas not accessible by public transportation.

Negotiation skills:
• strong negotiation skills, including demonstrated experience negotiating and leading multi-stakeholder land claim agreements of substantive subject matter to achieve strategic and long term objectives
• experience adapting and modifying negotiation theories, principles, practices, methods and techniques to resolve divergent views and contentious situations

Knowledge of Indigenous land claims:
• knowledge of the legal, social and economic issues affecting the provincial land claim and governance policies, provincial administrative processes, precedents and decision making processes to provide consultation, determine negotiation strategies, agree to negotiation proposals and explain or promote provincial position
• knowledge of the history, culture, treaty rights and political structures of Indigenous peoples in Canada

Communication and interpersonal skills:
• listening and communication skills to negotiate in a clear, concise and persuasive manner, elicit information from stakeholders, identify interests, exchange information, prepare briefing notes and/or presentation materials
• mediation and facilitation skills to broaden the areas of agreement and narrow the areas of disagreement with stakeholders of diverse and competing interests
• networking skills to establish stakeholder contacts, to expedite communications, resolve issues and promote the provincial position

Project management skills:
• project management skills to administer complex projects; to organize and prioritize multi-disciplinary negotiations team activities; to develop strategies and recommendations to achieve successful negotiations in a timely manner

Analytical skills:
• analytical, judgement, and evaluative skills to formulate negotiation approaches and strategies, evaluate settlement options and make recommendations
• ability to research and synthesize large amounts of subject matter to summarize, identify issues/trends, provide advice and generate proposed options

Salary Range: $73,769 - $107,220 per year
