Wunnumin Lake’s mysterious Bigfoot family
Through the years and through verbal stories passed on from ancestors within the area known as Wunnumin Lake, there have been tales and legends of beings not entirely human being sighted and being in contact with local folk.
Over the past few years there have been sightings and evidence of a mythical creature known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch.
A few years ago a group of three young women were blueberry picking in a spot where it is not easily accessible for any machine to travel. Suddenly a large rock came crashing near where they were picking.
One of them was sitting a little ways away and they went to ask her if that was her who did that.
She was perplexed and asked if they were playing games with her. They realized that “someone” threw a rock at them with no one even close by, and ran from the area knowing it might be a Sasquatch.
Another sighting was near the gravel pit a few years ago when someone saw a glimpse of a tall, hairy creature standing at the gravel pit but only for an instant as they were driving by.
Another time a sewage truck driver was making an early evening deposit out past the airport (it was dark already) when he spotted some huge person or something coming towards him on the road.
The smell was getting worse, not from the sewage but from the creature. He made a u-turn and came back.
A few years ago a young lady was jogging back from the airport road when a truck drove by and a piece of paper or wrapper flew off.
A bear was nearby and the bear went to inspect what flew off. She kept on running when suddenly from out of the bushes a hairy looking human form emerged and he was focused on the bear without seeing the jogger.
When the creature looked up and saw the jogger he took off and went crashing among the trees very fast.
The stench from the creature was that of a wet dog smell. The jogger was shooken up but continued running hoping someone would drive by. This was near the boat landing area on the east side and in the middle of the afternoon.
During the summer of 2011 a person was getting clean water from up the road with his son when he heard some kind of scream or grunt and it started to smell, a smell he described as like a wet dog.
They left the area and did not mention anything about it for two days. When the news came out, other people went there to check and found evidence of footprints and of a poplar tree debarked high on the tree.
Pictures were taken of two sets of footprints around the tree. One was size 15 and the other size 20.
Each stride was measured at approximately five feet apart and left and right footprints were visible in the mossy area.
So far this is the strongest evidence of a possible Bigfoot in the area. The poplar tree was done with precision, as if a human had done it himself, but it was debarked at least 10 feet from the ground.
This summer, in August of 2012, a little girl and her friends were just coming out from the beach and were walking in a little clearing.
She was lagging behind when she spotted something or someone standing there. She hid and had enough presence to take a snapshot with her ipod of the little hairy creature before that thing walked off into the underbrush.
It was two days before she finally told her mother of what she saw and of the picture she took. Since then that picture has been circulating around the internet.
Although not very clear, the picture is authentic. People have been inspecting the little footprints and measuring 11 inches in length. Some say they are the footprints of a baby Sasquatch.
There is a huge hill south of the community, at least 30 kms away.
Most if not all of the sightings have been to the south of Wunnumin Lake.
They say there is a cave there not easily accessible, situated on a rocky, steep incline on the north side of the hill.
No one has ever been close enough to inspect the cave.
It is best to leave them alone and not bother them as they certainly have never harmed no one.
I guess being provoked is the only way that they would attack. Although at times they have been known to damage some property.
I believe they are as much afraid of humans as we are of them.
Whoever or whatever they are, we cannot discount them as a figment of our imagination. Too many sightings from all types of people cannot be dismissed as hallucination. They are here, they live among us.

mythical, legends No! this is a belief system taught to Native peoples just like we would never call Jesus a legend or myth, do not disrespect Natives beliefs systems. Do not have them host Olympics, or made little dolls of them, or name sports teams or cars after them. Listen to what the Elders say, stay safe. The fact that they live there is a statement to the clean lands you have. Now that you told everyone where to go look they will destroy the land there, they will scare them away. I guess the logging and mining will do it any way when they tear up your lands for Development. Process, (but which way is up) lol
These sightings have occurred
These sightings have occurred world wide. A great deal of them have been studied to some degree. They do not just happen in Northern Ontario. One was seen apparently waving at a motorist while driving on Florida's Turnpike. In South America, Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe there are numerous reports. What connects these all? I do not have an answer.I did once. But It became apparent to me these "bigfoots", which are general described as being larger that an average man would of been "discovered" by now. There are many sightings in very populated areas. I heard an elder in the west say they may be spiritual beings.

You're right Bob, just another town trying to drum up a few tourists. I guess they've been getting away with that for the past...thousand years or so. I can't believe that just in the U.S. alone Native American tribes have over 75 names alone for the "mythical" beast, not to mention hundreds of settlements named for the creature. BTW, those figures don't include Canada. I guess those Native Americans are smarter than we give them credit for, trying to drum up tourism for the past...1,000 years or so...

Hardcore non-believers almost always know nothing meaningful about the subject. Next time you encounter someone like Bob Applewhite ask him to tell you everything he knows about giant hominids, and watch the look on his face. Stupid, angry, or both.

My late grandfather was
My late grandfather was telling me a story about these hairy creatures in the forests one time. He told me that long ago, one man from one tribe disappeared from their camp. It was already the time the Europeans were around. Anyway, a few years later, one group was hunting in the wilderness and they encountered this hairy creature. Out of fright, one of the men quickly aimed and fired his gun. The creature fell dead. One very surprising thing from all this was, my late grandfather told me, was when they examined this dead creature; he was wearing a crucifix on his chest. So, for me and what I was told by my late grandfather, I believe these are people that disappear from their camps never to be found again. Think so? And by the way, my late grandfather told me this was passed on to him by people of the past too and now I'm doing it myself.

To those skeptics and the one's who laugh at the idea, let me say that I was the EXACT same way....until I had an up close encounter myself. It was in Northern WI. in the early 80's, I was in my boat fishing on a very remote lake...no roads lead anywhere around the lake except to the resort that has 5 small cabins , all boats are loaded and unloaded there. I was in a part of the lake that hardly anyone would go to because of the shallow rice you have to go through to get there for possiblly one or two cast, as it is up against the shore..I heard what I was hoping was a large Musky splashing, so I got around the point of the lake (there is a point then it shallows up) and made my first cast without being completely around the turn, when I made the turn is when I seen the creature..NO mistaking it for a bear, or a man in a Gorilla suit..It was in the water which had a muck bottom...it was huge. I stopped for what seemed like an eternity..It took one step and was out of the water on shore ...I got out of there with my lure still in the water and trolling motor still down...If it was a guy in a suit, why would he be in that part of the lake? How would he have got there ? Why would he be in the water in a suit thate would have cost well over $50,000 take make...and when did people start growing over 8 feet tall (with the exception of Robt. Wadlow). See none of that makes any sense uless it was a Bigfoot. If it was someone in a suit they would have went to a place where people would see it for sure...not in a spot I just happen by chance to go...and why would a person ruin the suit. The thing is that the people
The thing is that the people who put up the board were the cabin onewrs who thought it probably was a bear.Although i agree that a motionsensitive cam would be logical to out up now, if they actually belive there is such a creature. Put it up for a year, and they would have a fair chance of catching something, instead of ust a week as they did now.If someone really belives in this it seams there are way better ways to try and find proof than what is being employed right now.
