NHL players donate hockey equipment to Sachigo Lake
The NHLPAs Goals & Dreams fund donated 36 sets of brand new hockey equipment to help Sachigo Lake First Nations Children's Minor Hockey Association.
In a Jan. 11th press release Sachigo Lake councillor Stanley L. Tait said: We are grateful towards the National Hockey League Players Association for donating 36 complete sets of hockey equipment. Thirty player sets and six goalie sets donation is worth $18,000. We are very much grateful to see their support towards our local childrens minor hockey association. Our children will be very happy that they have received acknowledgment from the NHLPA."
The Sachigo Lake Childrens Minor Hockey Association has been in existence since 1979 and has continued over the years in spite of the challenges it has faced. The remoteness of the community has been the largest challenge because equipment can only be bought in urban areas and the added high cost of freight.
